PARMALAT
“bNavigator has been a success because it makes finding the right information completely intuitive. As our new front-end interface to SAP BW, bNavigator does more than look pretty – it improves the utilisation of our data warehouse. This solution leverages our existing investment in SAP and helps maximise the benefits.”
Rod Walden, Chief Financial Officer, Parmalat Australia Ltd.
THE CHALLENGE
Parmalat is one of the major manufacturers of milk, yoghurt and fresh dairy products in Australia. The company has an impressive stable of well recognised, popular milk and dairy product brands which are sold in both Australia and overseas and these include Parmalat, Pauls, Trim, PhysiCAL, Breaka, Ice Break and Vaalia.
Parmalat has been a user of Business Intelligence since Release 1.2 of SAP BW in 1999. They had previously upgraded to Version 2.0 and 3.0. All content to-date had been delivered via the BEx Analyser.
While BW has been of great importance to Parmalat for the ongoing analysis of the business, it has historically been met with mixed enthusiasm from its user-base. “The earlier versions of BW didn’t provide the greatest user experience, and this reflected somewhat unfairly on what we had delivered.” says Geoff O’Donnell, Applications Manager at Parmalat.
In 2005, Parmalat commenced a BW improvement project that identified several new opportunities for improved decision support with high-level management using SAP BW. This would require the deployment of more intuitive web-based reports.
APPROACH
Parmalat chose to install bNavigator on it’s SAP BW server to deploy new and existing SAP BW reports.
“bNavigator allowed us to combine our BEx Analyser reports and new BW Web reports in a single web-based interface. The fact we could also surface network and R/3 reports in the same place was a bonus. The positive response and change in perception from our BW user base has been instantaneous!” say O’Donnell.
“bNavigator has also brought a new and effective regimen in the way that our business information is vetted before being made general available to our users.” says O’Donnell.
RESULTS
“bNavigator has been a success because it makes finding the right information completely intuitive. As our new front-end interface to SAP BW, bNavigator does more than look pretty – it improves the utilisation of our data warehouse. This leverages our existing investment in SAP and helps maximise the benefits from SAP BW” says Rod Walden, Chief Financial Officer of Parmalat Australia Ltd.
