THE CHALLENGE

CS Energy is one of the fastest growing electricity companies in Australia . Since inception in 1997, CS Energy has increased its asset base by more than 40%, and now operates the largest power station portfolio in Queensland .

Already benefiting from a solid SAP R/3 implementation, CS Energy needed a flexible reporting and analysis tool to extract and deliver valuable business information quickly. It selected SAP BW as the platform for it’s Decision Support System.

The initial SAP BW implementation included the development of hundreds of queries that were targeted to specific user groups. “We needed an effective and efficient way to deploy these queries over the web,” says Robin Whitehead, Business Systems Support Manager at CS Energy.

Furthermore, the majority of the proposed SAP BW users, which included senior management, were not in the habit of logging onto a system. “A critical success factor was going to be behavioural change. The best possible data warehouse would not bring real benefits unless our users actively used the system. To maximise the potential of BW, the interface need to be more than intuitive … it needed to be engaging,” says Whitehead.

APPROACH

CS Energy chose bNavigator to deploy SAP BW across its organisation. It was installed on the Netweaver platform on existing SAP hardware. “Installation of bNavigator was a simple process taking only a few hours – we chose to install it on the SAP Enterprise Portal, but alternatively could have installed it on the SAP BW box itself. The response from our users has been terrific.” says Whitehead.

CS Energy then upgraded to bNavigator 2.0 in May 2005 bringing a host of new benefits and usability enhancements. “The implementation team is particularly pleased with bNavigator’s new approach to quality deployments. With support for multiple clients and XML import/export capability, we are able to quickly and easily QA business information before making it widely available within the business,” says Whitehead.

RESULTS

“Implementing SAP BW combined with bNavigator has been a resounding success for our company. We already have comprehensive financial and HR reporting from SAP BW via bNavigator, and are constantly expanding this capability,” says Whitehead.
